Installation & Care

Upon delivery, place your door off the ground in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and extremes of temperature or humidity.

It is vital that the door is sealed promptly after delivery to prevent moisture absorption and consequent movement.

Choose a suitable finishing system with a high UV protection rating such as marine-quality varnish or an oil-based enamel paint.

The only oil system we recommend is Sikkens as it forms a waterproof skin on the timber. Dark colours must not be used if door is exposed to any direct sunlight as this may warp or crack the door.

PREPARATION
Doors are machine sanded to 150 grit finish and, before applying sealant, should be thoroughly sanded with fine sandpaper (200- 240 grit) to remove any handling marks and to ease sharp edges.

FINISHING
Apply initial coats of sealant with the door laid flat, if possible.
Apply the remaining coats after hanging the door.
All 6 surfaces MUST be sealed and this waterproof seal must be maintained to minimise timber movement and prevent water staining.
Recoats may be necessary every 2-5 years depending on exposure.
Refer to “BRANZ” good coating practise for further information.
